It’s so hard to believe that a new year is just around the bend. Where did this one go? How did it seem to go by so fast?

In the past I used to make New Years Resolutions. You too? I stopped a few years ago when I realized that they were just thoughts, ideas, unlofty goals that I never planned on fulfilling. So instead I just gathered that dream that was close to my heart and made a decision to continue to follow it. Whether it was to continue to eat healthy (and pray that one day my body will realize all my hard work), to love my family more, to nurture the friendships already in my life or to continue with my goal to be published.

My dreams are the same ones I’ve had year in and year out. The only thing that has changed was me.

I read the following (below) in my devotional today and it made sense. Everything that it will take to make my dreams come true is already within me. I’m the one who determines what happens to my dreams, no one else. Yep, I may stumble a few times, want to throw in the towel and yes, I’ve been known to consume a few chocolate bars here and there (or boxes of chocolates like the ones I have in front of me) … but as long as I pick myself back up and dust myself off – I will be okay. My dream will never go away. It will grow with me, expand as I expand (not width wise thankyouverymuch) and give way to new dreams when these ones have come to pass.

Resolutions are just things we’ve already decided in our heart to do – yet they have a bad rap when we make them every year on January 1st. Why not make it a part of you? Have that resolution be your goal, your dream  – that thing that you are already pursuing?

What do you think?

“When God puts a dream in your heart, when He puts a promise on the inside of you, He deposits within you everything you need to accomplish that dream. He wouldn’t give you the desire to do something without giving you the ability to fulfill it. In fact, the scripture tells us that God gives us the desires of our heart. In other words, He puts the desire inside of us and then works with us to bring it to pass.

Oftentimes, people set out to accomplish their dreams, but they face a setback or disappointment, and then they feel like their time has passed. But let me tell you today, no matter where you’ve come from, no matter what’s happened in your past, God wants to make you new. He wants to give you a fresh start. If you feel like you’ve missed opportunities in your life, if you feel like your time has passed, remember, today is a new day. You are a new person, and God has new opportunities in store for you. Lift up your eyes of faith and look forward to the new thing God has for you in this New Year!” Joel Olsteen
