I love to travel. I think we all know that by now. Ever since I was young, I wanted to explore the world, to see new things, experience different cultures and just be.

But when we usually think of traveling – we think packing a suitcase, living in a hotel, eating out every night, taking lots of photos for a week or two before coming home more exhausted than we were before we left for our trip and needing a ‘mini’ vacation from our ‘real’ vacation.

I recently came across this article about living ‘mini-lives‘ and I realized that this is what I want to do. This is exactly how I want to live my life…by immersion rather than skimming.

Right now, while I travel, whether it’s for one week, two weeks or when I can go for three amazing weeks…I feel like I’m skimming the waters, getting little tastings of what I want to do and where I want to go later on. And for now – this works. With three teenagers at home, I realistically can’t take off for a month at a time…but one day I will.

I will.

But not just a month. Why not two, or three? When the urge to travel hits me, I dream of renting a villa or apartment and finding a place to fit in. I would bring my laptop with me and work on a story, get to know my neighbors or local business owners. I’d learn to chat with them a little bit in their language and wake up every morning feeling refreshed.

I love the idea of living a ‘mini-life’  and I wonder if I can convince my husband do live it with me?

For now though, I’ll continue skimming…getting tastes of what I want to do and where I want to go. Like Santorini, Greece…after visiting there for a day, I’d love to go back for a month…or Positano or Tuscany…return to Brugge even….

oh, the list is endless….where would you go? Share below!
