Steena Reads: Tosca Lee

Can we talk about author-crushes for a moment? We all have them. We follow them on social media, read everything they write, laugh at their jokes, share their funny memes or images, and hound them for news about their upcoming novels. Whenever we hear about an author signing or an event where they might be, we wonder how we can get there and if there is a way for us to actually meet them, we go over that meeting, what we would say, over and over and over and over.

Am I right?

I have a few author-crushes. One of them is Tosca Lee. The fact I’ve been able to chat with her – not just about books but about life – hits me every time I see our messages on FB or in my email. The first book I read from Tosca? Demon: a Memoir. Talk about thought-changer. Then I realized she was co-writing a series with another amazing author I loved – Ted Dekker – called The Book of Mortals.

I’ve read all of her books. I’ve loved them all as well. But when I read the Progeny…I was sucked into a story that would not leave me alone. I loved the concept, the imagery, the setting and the history. Her first page drew me in until I was curled up in my chair, a bowl of chocolate covered almonds on the table beside me (milk chocolate though, sorry Tosca…) and told my husband he had to figure out dinner. I distinctly remember not writing that day.

I loved her book so much, I even wrote to her…nervous as all get out that I was about to do this…and kind of begged for a chance to write in her world if it ever opened up (you know, like Kindle Worlds or how James Patterson is doing his Book Shots with other authors…I thought for sure she was going to laugh at me. Instead, I got the honor of reading FirstBorn early and even blurbing it.

Guys…I LOVED it! Honestly! And I’m so excited to feature her here for you to discover her (in case you haven’t seen all my FB posts or sharing of her books or…). Please…check out her books. Pick one up. Fair warning…Be prepared to fall in love with a new author and expect to devour all of her books!

Below is my blurb to prove how much I love this series
(she even used it on the front cover…OMG I need to frame that! My blurb on my favorite authors books! Bucket LIST!)
Then it’s about her latest release
and then…A GIVEAWAY!

“The Queen of psychological twists, Tosca Lee weaves a supernatural tale of a world you wish were a part of. Progeny is the kind of story that takes over your dreams and Firstborn takes over your life. “ (NYT and USA Today Bestselling author Steena Holmes)

ABOUT HER BOOKS

Firstborn

BUY TODAY!

Face-to-face with her past, Audra Ellison now knows the secret she gave up everything—including her memory—to protect. A secret made vulnerable by her rediscovery, and so powerful neither the Historian nor the traitor Prince Nikola will ever let her live to keep it.

With Luka in the Historian’s custody and the clock ticking down on his life, Audra only has one impossible chance: find and kill the Historian and end the centuries old war between the Progeny and Scions at last—all while running from the law and struggling to control her growing powers.

With the help of a heretic monk and her Progeny friends Claudia, Piotrek, and Jester, Audra will risk all she holds dear in a final bid to save them all and put her powers to the ultimate test. Love, action, and stunning revelation reign in this thrilling conclusion to The Progeny.

NOW TO THE GOOD STUFF…HER SECRETS…

Say you have a secret stash of treats around the house. Where would it be and what would you hide?
Haha. It’s like you know me or something. I stash dark chocolate and almonds in the back of the cabinet, homemade potstickers and Korean ribs in the back of the freezer, and hide my favorite bacon under the vegetables where no kid would ever look for it. (Steena says: Is it any wonder I love Tosca so much?)

What would be the perfect food and drink pairing for your book?
Coffee, Croatian style—in a tiny cup with a shot of water. For food, Hungarian Turo Rudi bars—a perfect pairing with coffee. They’re very hard to come by out of Europe, but here’s a recipe I found: https://atdownunder.com/2011/10/27/dotted/

(Steena says: You know I had to look this up, right? When I saw it dipped in chocolate, I needed to know how to make it. Then I discovered Quark. What is quark you say? It’s like cream cheese but NOT cream cheese BUT it’s also really easy to make. And now I want to make these and try them with a cup of strong coffee and re-read Firstborn!)

Do you collect anything?
I’m a notorious thrower-outer. It gets me in a lot of trouble when people go looking for things. One thing I always keep: notes from people. I have a whole drawer of homemade cards and notes from my kids and husband, and a bin each of cards and letters from friends/family and my fans.

What’s one word your friends would use to describe you?
Ever-hungry.

Tell us one secret behind the writing of your latest book:
Ahhh—here’s a couple. All the locations are real. The tunnels beneath Buda’s Castle Hill are real—and it’s also true that the map went missing about a hundred years ago. Also, scarily true: I learned I was distantly related to the Blood Countess during the writing of the first book. (Steena says: SHUT UP! That is so cool!)

Paris! I’ve seen so many pictures, and though I was in France one time, I didn’t make it to this amazing city. Oh, one day! Until then, I travel through what I read . . .

Ireland is definitely at the top of my bucket list. My Sweetie has traveled all over the world and he says Ireland is the most beautiful place he’s ever been. So I think I need to see that with my own eyes

I would love to see the Eiffel Tower! Also,it would be cool to see Vladimir the Impalers Castle, since he is supposed to be the real Dracula, and they say he haunts it! Finally, I just adore Wuthering Heights and I’m mostly of Irish/Scottish descent, so it would be awesome to see the spots where the movie was filmed. I think one of those spots is the White Cliffs of Dover? Anyhow, Steena, I also love Tosca Lee, and would love to win this! Thanks for the chance!

Just about anywhere. I have been to Paris, Austria, Bavaria, Wales and parts of England. That leaves an awful lot of places to see. However, if I was given only one to go to, it would have to be the Alhambra. I could spend a week there and not see it all.

I would love to go to Boar’s Hill in England. It’s near Oxford. My mother grew up there and miss the bluebells. My great-grandfather taught at Oxford University. I would like to see where my mother lived and see her childhood home. That home is still there and owned by my aunt.

I’ve never been to Europe but I’d love to visit London, Italy, Greece, Scotland, Ireland just to name a few lol. However, I’d probably start with Scotland since I traced our family ancestry back on my Mom’s side to Scottish Royalty in the day of The Bruce. Then I’d have to go to Ireland and trace the Irish ancestry on my Dad’s side of the family.

Traveling is hard for me I used to take week long road trips in the USA by myself. But RA has put a stop to that. But if I could visit a place in Europe it would have to be Ireland. I would love to see the land where my Grandma Callahan came from and soak up the atmosphere of the place and people.
